Dr. Yunus Wins 2006 Seoul Peace Prize

Dr. Muhammad of Bangladesh was named the winner of the 2006 Seoul Peace Prize for his relentless efforts to fight poverty in his home country.

"His tireless endeavor to root out poverty and create a new model of giving credit to the poor will bear fruit in terms of greater peace in the world,'' the Seoul Prize Cultural Foundation said in a press conference at the Seoul Press Center.

The annual prize of $200,000 honors the peace activities of politicians, academics, civic activists and international organizations. The award ceremony was held in Seoul on October 19, six days after the announcement that Dr. Yunus and Grameen Bank won the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize.
