Grameen and Danone Sign MoU for China

Grameen Trust has signed two Memorandums of Understanding with Danone to provide microcredit for poverty alleviation and income generating activities in the earthquake hit areas in China. Danone will support Grameen Trust's microcredit program in Sichuan and elsewhere in China. Grameen Trust, Danone and the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development (CPAD) of China has partnered for another initiative to provide microcredit for economic rehabilitation in the earthquake hit areas in Sichuan province.

 

Bahrain MoSD Delegates Visit Grameen

A two-member delegation from the Ministry of Social Development (MoSD) of Bahrain visited Grameen Trust on August 14 - 15, 2008 to discuss about the establishment of the Family Bank, a microcredit bank being set up in Bahrain as a collaboration between MoSD and Grameen Trust. The delegation consisted of Mrs. Ebtissam Yassin, Director of Human Resource and Financial Department and Controller of the Family Bank, and Dr. Atef El shabrawy, Advisor for Community Development to Her Excellency the Honorable Minister Fatema Al Balooshi and the Coordinator of Family Bank project.

The MoSD team held meetings with Grameen Trust on August 14 and 15, and visited a Grameen Bank branch. The delegation also met Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus.

The Family Bank will be established in Bahrain following the Grameen model. Grameen Trust deputed Ms. Jannat-E-Quanine, Deputy General Manager, Grameen Bank, for a two-month mission to Bahrain to help MoSD to set up the logistics of the Family Bank.
